About Us

Given to Score is a team effort in the same way Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds is a band – in that, it’s not really. It was founded and  is written and edited by Simon Moult although the odd talented friend has been known to get involved with photography and a matchday or two.

Simon Moult has written words since the day he was able to connect pen to paper and he has written about Manchester United Football Club since sometime that afternoon. In school he used to have news reports and opinion printed daily and left around for people to read and the first time he used the internet he established a Man United mailing list for people outside of Britain to subscribe to so that they could keep up to date with all things Manchester United. He also thought it would be a good idea to contact the editor of Red News and get that name plastered all over the match reports and news items he sent out, good for everybody!

Fast forward through lots of unpaid stints at places like Lancashire Evening Telegraph and the Bolton Evening News, Simon’s work was featured on enough sites for it to dawn on him… it should probably be on his own too!

Given to Score was established and has refused to go away ever since. Simon’s work is still featured in other places around the internet and in print. The connection with Barney and Red News continues all these years later.

Simon has attended United matches regularly since 1991.
